I created and built Journey Kindly to promote volunteering. The website is a guide map for people to find causes they can support while traveling abroad.
Inspiring altruistic travel
Journey Kindly is a digital resource focused on altruistic travel. The platform works to spread information on short-term volunteer opportunities abroad. Journey Kindly sets out to challenge people to do more with travel. Promoting international organizations that meet specific benchmarks for impact and responsibility, the brand is part information hub and part community for volunteerism.
Enhancing travel through experience
The idea for Journey Kindly was created in 2016 in response to an increase in international travel. From college students studying abroad to newly retirees taking an extended trip, there was opportunity to create a culture focused on giving back. While tourism can be a net positive for local economies, travelers bring pollution and negatively alter certain aspects of regional culture. Journey Kindly hopes to balance the negative affects of travel.
"We take 1 million trips each year. Let's tap into travel and build a better future for the places we visit."
Changing travel culture
Journey Kindly uses information and storytelling to push a movement. The brand emphasizes people doing positive work and organizations who empower volunteers to make lasting change. The goal is to make volunteering while traveling a possibility for all travelers. Journey Kindly focuses on removing barriers to accessing information and makes it easier to contact nonprofits. Each piece of the website is designed to inspire visitors to volunteer as a way to enhance their travel experiences.
Building a community
Journey Kindly is focused on bringing together people passionate about using their travel to give back. A enthusiastic core where people can exchange ideas and share experiences helps grow the way people view volunteering and traveling. They help add to the itinerary an amazing nonprofit in addition to booking a hotel, rental car and plane ticket.
"The idea that we can make travel a vehicle to improve the world is something we shouldn't pass up. This a community that could make a lasting change globally."
