With a focus on editorial writing, I supported story development to advance awareness for the work and mission of Children’s Institute.
Expanding awareness through editorial writing
Looking at the work of Children’s Institute through a journalistic lens, I sought out stories that would capture the human interest stories followers could relate to while promoting the human-focused programs that allowed people to grow and succeed.
"I was very aware that I had never encountered a foster youth. I had never encountered the system or a social worker, and a lot of the people in my life hadn’t either."
Distilling complex topics into clear narratives
The work of Children’s Institute is complicated and often laced with jargon. Like most industries across medical, financial or technology, staff have advanced degrees and do detailed work that is beyond the scope of people who work outside the respective industries. The mission of Children’s Institute can be powerful and confusing at the same time.
Defining digital storytelling meant decluttering information and simplifying details. At the heart of every message was a focus on anti-poverty initiatives that could help build a better future for all people.
"We provide consistent support in-home every week to families who don’t have the resources. The families do all of the work – we just help them along the way"
